At the heart of the H3 Alpha is a powerful 5.3L V8 engine that delivers an impressive 300 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.

With the Alpha, our engineers didn’t merely shoehorn the V8 into the H3’s engine compartment; they went back to the drawing board and made a number of significant improvements that enhance performance.

To begin, the front section of the frame and the engine compartment of the H3 were modified to fit the new engine while a special oil pan was designed to ensure constant oil pressure when driving on steep grades. A cast-iron front differential case replaced the old aluminum one to better handle the torque output, and an improved steering system enhances on-road feel and off-road reliability. New engine mounts, a thicker front prop shaft, higher torsion-bar rates to support the increased mass, and specific shock valving are unique to the V8 and ensures outstanding on- and off-road handling.

Engineered to meet stringent emissions standards, the H3 Alpha’s V8 engine is not just cleaner but beats the deadline for the new U.S. federal emissions standards by a year.

TOWING

The 5.3L V8 when partnered with the Alpha’s Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission enables a maximum towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. So if you decide to tow your boat up the mountain to the lake, the H3 Alpha performs with utmost ease.

ON THE OUTSIDE

PROTECTION

With all this off-road capability, exterior protection is obviously imperative. To that end, the H3 Alpha boasts underbody protection that runs the entire length of the vehicle beginning with the thick, solid aluminum, front skid plate. This shield helps protect the frame and front suspension components from rock strikes and other hard hits. Also standard are three high-strength steel skid plates to help protect the oil pan, fuel tank and the transfer case.

An available Underbody Protection Package features two skid plates, providing enhanced protection for the transfer case and the transmission oil pan as well.

Also available is the full-body Rocker Panel Protection designed to help protect the sides of the vehicle from even the meanest off-road threats.

With all these features, the H3 Alpha not only makes sure you can get your truck out into the rough country, but also makes sure you have all the protection required to get back.

OFF-ROAD CAPABLE

The H3 Alpha’s large tires, wide stance, and short front and rear overhangs combine not only to carve a distinctly HUMMER silhouette, but also to provide stability, outstanding ground clearance and enhanced rock-climbing capability. The skidplate provides vital underbody protection while off-roading. The large tires also enhance traction both on- and off-road.

ON THE INSIDE

SEATING

The H3 Alpha features standard leather-appointed plush bucket seating, that comfortably houses 5 adults. The front seat headrests are embroidered with the premium "Alpha" logo as a finishing touch to double-stitched "French" seams throughout the rest of the interior. The front and back row seats all come with dual density foam and soft bolsters to provide additional comfort and help provide support during severe off-road maneuvers. In addition, the back row seats have a 60/40 split that can be folded down to create 56.4 cubic feet of cargo space.*

The leather-appointed seating comes in Ebony with Pewter piping, Light Cashmere with Ebony piping or Ebony with Morocco-toned seat inserts and piping.

INTERIOR

The H3 Alpha was designed to be as intuitive as possible. To act as an extension of your body and a reinforcement of your instincts. The cockpit controls and features are a natural progression from the slick, streamlined interface of the legendary H1. From the rotary control switches to the individual gauge bezels, to the soft touch caps on the control switches, you’ll notice everything is logical, organized, easy to use and accessible.

In addition, you’ll find a host of subtler features that enhance your interior experience. Like the five standard assist handles that make entry easier and offer support in severe off-road terrain. The unique brushed finish on the driver information center adds a premium feel while the leather-appointed seating, automatic gear controls and chrome door handles combine to create class and richness.

STEREO/NAVIGATION

The H3 Alpha comes with an ETR AM/FM stereo with in-dash 6-disc CD changer. A larger (single-line, 12-character) text display features a performance-enhanced, premium, 7-speaker Monsoon® sound system delivering 200 amplified watts.

The optional DVD-based Navigation Radio instantly maps routes with 2D and 3D graphics.* View the maps on a 6.5-inch diagonal LCD touch screen. Once en route, drivers hear verbal instructions to keep them on course. The navigation system comes with separate DVD and CD slots as well as XM Radio† with three months of trial service.

6,000-lb. trailering capacity for the H3 Alpha. Trailer tongue weight should be 10%-15% of total loaded trailer weight, up to 500 lb.
