General Motors invests in diversity. Its suppliers, dealers and employees are spread across multiple Asian continents, and a considerable percentage of Chevrolet’s global sales come from Asian countries. As a result, it is important that GM appreciates diversity and supports initiatives in Asian communities in the United States and abroad.
Through its partnership with the U.S. Asian American Journalist Association (AAJA), GM supports and encourages the works of Asian-American journalists, celebrates Asian traditions and participates in matters that concern the community.
General Motors’ collaboration with AAJA began several years ago through a sponsorship of the organization’s annual conference. This initial sponsorship quickly grew into a larger partnership as General Motors continued to collaborate with AAJA on events and programs in additional cities.
Most recently, GM sponsored the AAJA Trivia Bowl in New York City. The event brought together 160 participants from leading media organizations, Asian-American community groups and corporations to participate in a head-to-head trivia challenge. In the spirit of the evening, GM posed three Chevrolet centennial trivia questions to participants during the break. Participants could tweet their answers and the first participant to tweet the correct answer was eligible for a week-long loan of a GM vehicle.
"GM's continued support of AAJA was instrumental in making the New York chapter's inaugural trivia bowl fundraiser a success," said Leezel Tanglao, event co-chair. "In one evening, GM's generous donation as our leading sponsor helped raise funds that will directly benefit AAJA members through scholarships for students aspiring to work in media and stipends for seasoned journalists looking to learn new skills in an ever-changing industry. We can't thank GM enough for its generosity.”
